Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

A Gentle Catalyst for Deep Healing

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a powerful modality that combines the neuroplastic effects of ketamine with the safety, insight, and integration of psychotherapy. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a holistic, trauma-informed lens, I offer KAP as a pathway for clients ready to explore deeper healing and transformation.

What is KAP?

KAP pairs moderate, medically prescribed doses of ketamine, a legal dissociative anesthetic, with psychotherapy. Ketamine enhances neuroplasticity and the production of BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor), helping the brain become more receptive to change.

Think of it as softening the well-worn trails in your brain, so new emotional and behavioral pathways can be created.

KAP can support healing from:

  • Treatment resistant depression

  • Anxiety and PTSD

  • Addiction and compulsive patterns

  • Chronic pain

  • Emotional numbness or disconnection

What to Expect from KAP

Each individual’s experience with ketamine is unique and can vary from session to session. Because ketamine is a dissociative, you may experience:

  • A sense of detachment from identity or the body

  • Deep relaxation

  • Emotional shifts or breakthroughs

  • Visual or symbolic imagery

  • Mystical or spiritual experiences

While no outcome is guaranteed or forced, these journeys often offer new perspectives and access to emotions or inner parts that may feel unreachable in ordinary states of consciousness.

These experiences are not the “goal,” but rather the terrain we explore together. Through thoughtful preparation and skilled integration, we anchor your insights into meaningful, lasting change.

My Approach

My role is to guide and support you through every phase of the process:

  1. Preparation – We set intentions, explore your inner landscape, and create a safe foundation.

  2. Dosing Sessions – These take place in a supportive setting, either in collaboration with a medical provider or using lozenges at home, depending on the protocol.

  3. Integration – We reflect, process, and bring meaning to the experience so insights can translate into lasting change.

As a therapist trained in trauma work, inner parts (parts work/IFS), and somatic awareness, I hold space for both the mystical and the practical. Your experience is honored, never pathologized.

Who Is It For?

KAP may be a good fit for those who:

  • Have tried traditional therapy or medications and are still seeking relief

  • Feel stuck in recurring emotional patterns

  • Are open to a spiritual or expanded states of consciousness as part of healing

  • Are curious about psychedelic therapy and want a grounded, relational approach

KAP is not for everyone, and a full screening process is required to determine eligibility and safety.

Safety & Medical Collaboration

Your safety is the foundation of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. Before beginning KAP, all clients must complete a thorough medical evaluation with a licensed ketamine prescriber (a medical doctor or nurse practitioner).

The prescriber will assess your full medical and psychiatric history to determine whether ketamine therapy is a safe and appropriate treatment option. Some conditions, such as untreated bipolar mania, psychosis, cardiovascular issues, or liver disease, may make ketamine use unsafe.

I refer clients to trusted, licensed professionals who specialize in ketamine treatment. Once cleared, we work together in close collaboration to ensure that your experience is both physically safe and emotionally supported.

My approach to KAP emphasizes ethical, trauma-informed care and integration, so that your healing experience is grounded, supported, and sustainable.
